Scheme of Work outline for our lesson plans in SEND Primary PE
Weeks 1-2:
Introduction and Balance & Coordination
The first two weeks introduce students to sensory areas and their relation to physical movement. Warm-up activities stimulate each of the five senses, and movement activities involve all sensory areas. The second week focuses on balance and coordination, with activities such as balance beam walking and catch and throw games.
Week 3-4:
Teamwork, Communication, and Strength & Endurance
In weeks three and four, students are introduced to teamwork and communication activities, including relay races and cooperative games. They also start to develop their strength and endurance through activities like lifting weights and running. These weeks are all about building on the foundation from the first two weeks and starting to develop more advanced skills.
Weeks 5-6:
Gross Motor Skills and Review & Assessment
The final two weeks focus on gross motor skills, such as crawling, jumping, and running. The last week serves as a review and assessment period, where students' progress is evaluated, and areas for improvement are identified. This not only showcases their understanding and skill development but also gives them a sense of accomplishment and pride in their progress.
