Unveiling our meticulously crafted Handball Lesson Plans and Scheme of Work, tailored specifically for Year 5 and 6 students. This all-inclusive resource is your roadmap to teaching handball effectively, with a strong emphasis on fostering essential skills, encouraging teamwork, and promoting physical fitness.
Our scheme of work is divided into six comprehensive lessons, each focusing on a unique aspect of handball:
-
Lesson 1: Introduction to the rules, basic movements, and positioning in handball. Activities include chest pass, bounce pass, and overhead throw.
-
Lesson 2: Dribbling skills and techniques. Activities include dribbling drills and a mini handball game.
-
Lesson 3: Focus on defending techniques. Activities include blocking, cone ball, and a 4v4 and 5v5 mini handball game.
-
Lesson 4: Shooting techniques and strategies. Activities include shooting drills and a mini handball game.
-
Lesson 5: Emphasis on working as a team. Activities include a handball competition and a mini handball tournament.
-
Lesson 6: Continuation of teamwork with a focus on competition. Activities include a team handball competition and a mini handball tournament.
Each lesson is thoughtfully structured with clear objectives, engaging warm-up games, practical activities, and a cool-down session. To ensure all students can participate and progress, we've included differentiation strategies for each activity, making it easier or harder based on students' abilities. We've also incorporated 'I Can' steps to help students understand and achieve the learning objectives of each lesson.
In addition to the lesson plans, the scheme of work includes a robust assessment strategy for each week. This allows teachers to track students' progress, provide constructive feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
To support the practical activities, we've listed all the necessary equipment for each week, making it easy for teachers to prepare in advance.
This resource is not just a teaching tool, but a comprehensive guide to making handball an enjoyable and rewarding part of your physical education curriculum. With our Handball Lesson Plans and Scheme of Work, you're equipped to deliver engaging, inclusive, and effective handball lessons for your Year 5 and 6 students.
