Scheme of Work Outline for Athletics Primary PE
Weeks 1-2:
Developing and Identifying Different Types of Running
In the first two weeks, pupils will focus on understanding and improving their running skills. They will learn about different types of running, including sprinting, long distance, and relay races. They will also participate in games and activities that involve running, and will be assessed on their participation and understanding of the different types of running.
Week 3-4:
Developing Throwing and Jumping Skills
In weeks three and four, the focus shifts to throwing and jumping.
Pupils will learn about different types of throwing and jumping, and will participate in activities designed to improve their strength, balance, accuracy, and agility in these areas. They will also be assessed on their performance in these activities and their understanding of the importance of landing correctly after a throw or jump.
Weeks 5-6:
Developing Catching Skills and Comprehensive Assessment of Athletics
In the final two weeks, pupils will learn about different types of
catching and will participate in activities designed to improve their catching accuracy and coordination. They will also comprehensively assess their running, throwing, jumping, and catching skills. This assessment will involve a running relay, a throwing accuracy challenge, a long jump, and a catching challenge. Pupils will be assessed on their performance in these activities and their understanding of the importance of landing correctly after a run, throw, jump, or catch.
